Kitchen Witch Magic by Mint Faery: Herbs 101

Meet Mint Faery, one of our favorite witches and contributors over here at Self Love Magic. In this video, she talks us through the most basic herbs that are likely already in your kitchen.

Salt – To purify and protect

Salt is one of our easiest-to-access materials. White table salt can be used for purification. Pink salt or Himalayan salt is used for love and heart healing, and black salt can also be used for protection.

Black Pepper – GTFO

Ever notice how it makes you sneeze? Black pepper is great for expulsion, or as Mint says, “Getting anything out of anywhere.” When used in spellwork it will force just about anything out! This is great for banishing, getting rid of bad habits and even sometimes awful people.

Paprika – A tiny grenade

Similar to the black pepper, paprika will help with the GTFO process. It’s a bit more fire though. Great for getting rid of any hexes or negative energy being used against you and to swiftly banish obstacles that might be in your way.

Red Pepper – Passion

At Self Love Magic, we recommend using red pepper flakes the way that Mint uses them. She uses them any time a relationship or future relationship needs a little heating up. Spicy! This is a great herb for sexual confidence spells.

Cumin – The herb of truth

Cumin is great for any time you want someone to tell you the truth. It’s used for spells for fidelity, politics, and mending issues between friends or lovers. This herb restores loyalty and trust.

Dill – New beginnings

Use dill to help you get that project jumpstarted. Dill is a great herb for money spells, prosperity, or spells to create good luck.

Basil – For love and just about everything!

Need to protect yourself? Grab some basil. It doesn’t hurt that basil is such good heart medicine. This herb can be used in love spells to foster love in any of your relationships. Like many other herbs, it’s often used for protection. It is especially useful when protecting yourself against attacks (of the physical, spiritual, or psychic variety).

Thyme – Fearlessness and faery sight

Thyme is generally used for assisting in safe passage. Mint explains that it used to be given to warriors by their lovers to ensure their safety while away. Thyme is also used to alleviate anxiety, as well as to help you tune into other realms. If you see thyme growing naturally, there are faeries near.

Oregano – A multipurpose herb

Oregano is an incredible multipurpose herb used for all sorts of things. It can be used for healing the body and healing the heart, for creating luck, and for helping with money management. It’s also great for bringing people together.

Bay Leaves – A witch’s best friend

I have always referred to the bay leaf as witch paper because the leaves are often used in ritual after writing on them (to bring desires into creation). This herb is all about drawing positivity toward you while also serving to protect you from negative energy. Use bay leaves to help manifest your desires, but also keep some on hand to smudge your home if someone or something funky enters your sacred space.
