Give the Earth the Present It Deserves This Earth Day

Happy Earth Day, folks! In celebration of the lovely Gaia, Mother Earth, I wanted to write about a few easy ways you can contribute to keeping our earth beautiful and alive.

5 earth-conscious steps that you can take right now, with super minimal effort:

1. Buy in bulk whenever possible.

While buying serving-size packets of food might be convenient, cut down on the packaging you use by buying in bulk. Buying from bulk bins means that you can buy exactly the amount of food you need. You can use mason jars when purchasing bulk foods so you aren’t wasting a plastic bag.

If everyone bought in bulk, we’d save enough packaging waste to eliminate 1.1 million garbage trailer trips to the landfill per year.

2. Invest in reusable straws.

Don’t contribute to the amount of plastic that causes hazards in our oceans. These metal straws come in a packet and even come with straw cleaners. See the lowest price on Amazon.

Over 500 million plastic straws are still used in America every day, and so many of them end up in the oceans.

3. Pick an eco-friendly detergent.

I don’t know about you, but I do laundry every single week. Picking an earth-friendly detergent lets me feel better like I am helping the earth (at least a tiny bit). It’s also great because it’s free of pesky chemicals that can irritate your skin.

Seventh Generation is the leading green laundry detergent brand that makes EPA-certified plant-based detergents. See the lowest price on Amazon.

4. Ditch the plastic water bottles.

Ever think about how many plastic water bottles you dispose of each year? Buying yourself a reusable bottle like the Hydro Cell Bottle can be hugely effective in helping to reduce waste. I love this bottle because it keeps warm liquids warm and cold liquids cold. See the lowest price on Amazon.

5. Try new sustainable products that can be easily purchased on Amazon.

Amazon has a huge variety of eco-friendly products that can be on your doorstep in two days. I recently discovered these bamboo kitchen towels that are reusable. According to Kitchen + Home, one roll of these towels should last six months! See the lowest price on Amazon.
